MATCH REPORTS: United 110- Solent Stars 88

London United stretched their unbeaten run to 4 games in the English Basketball League Division 1 with a comfortable home victory against Alan Cunningham's Solent stars at a nearly full Brunel University on Sunday afternoon.

United starting the scoring through a Steve Vear three and took the initiative to get the ball into the paint to big men Callender, Reid and Van Elswyk who all converted their opportunities. Deppisch came off the bench to delight the crowd with two long range three's as Solent managed to stay within 7 points due to good work from Capers and Jackson by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw United pull away with an impressive display of team scoring with seven different team members contributing to the 30 point haul as Solent could only manage 18 points. The half closed out 77-56 in London's favour.

United's dominance continued throughout the game eventhough Solent started brightly due to Capers scoring ability. It was Steve Vear and Junior Williams who found Peter Van Elswyk on the break on four occasions to finish off with easy layups. Van Elswyk was again the outstanding contributor with his mobile style attacking the basket.

Jacek Jagodka came to life along with fellow Polish countryman Sebastian Saloman as they contributed 18 and 11 respectiveley. Sebastian Saloman was at his best since joining the Club with his ability to make good moves in the post and to take rebounds.

Not too much defence was played in the last quarter as the teams went at eachother offensively, Deppisch again nailed two big three's and was then rested and Solent's O'harabe picked up a dunk with Reid repeating at the other end, only to be badly fouled by Jackson on his next trip into the paint. The situation nearly turned ugly although the refs managed to seperate the two and award Reid with the foul shots and Jackson with an unsportmanlike foul.

The crowd bayed for Pete Deppisch to come in as the last quarter died but he couldn't get his somewhat sunstantial frame off the bench in time to get the substitution as the final hooter sounded.

United remain undeafeated with a 4-0 record as the home fans went home happy.

United's next home game is next Sunday 21st November against Coventry at Brunel tipping off at 4pm.

The night before they travel to Kingston to face the Wildcats.
